Claughton

I had a lovely drive down to Stoke, this morning, for a meeting with a client whose company I particularly enjoy. We had coffees and bacon rolls while we chatted and, all in all, it was very pleasant.

I set off back up the M6 in the early afternoon and the drive back started out equally pleasantly but then the roadside signs started warning of an incident between junctions 35 and 36. By the time I was up near Preston the problem, caused by an overturned caravan, had spread back down to the long stretch between junctions 32 and 33.

Consequently, I left the motorway and tried to find my way north whilst avoiding the common dodges that everyone else was using, all the while attempting to suppress the resurrection of my erstwhile irrational dislike of caravan owners, which hasn't troubled me for a while now.

One way or another (and another and then another), I ended up on the A683, which runs between Heysham and Kirkby Stephen. It's a road I use quite often and over the years that I've been doing the daily blog, I've kept meaning to take a photo of this set up. The cables run between the brick works and Claughton Moor, where I believe clay is quarried (or whatever the term is for digging up clay). This contraption prevents any clay falling onto the road. It seems to have used an awful lot of bricks but I guess they had plenty to hand!
