Fine day for them
This guy and his mate are mystery ducks. Since my new neighbour put a pond in his garden they've taken to sitting next to it. He's covered it now since the loss of some small Koi carp which might well have been taken by these guys. I had a shock the other day when I opened the back door and they were marching purposefully down the garden path towards me - one of those "I must be dreaming" moments; I've not seen ducks up here before. Chatting with neighbours it seems that they might have previously been lodging on an ornamental pond near the farmhouse, they certainly seem domesticated and walk towards rather than away from people. I took this image across the road in the area near the gate. Both birds were resting by standing on one leg with their heads folding back under a wing. Cars were passing within a foot or so but they didn't seem concerned until I wandered out with the camera when they both started walking towards me. Now I know that ducks are only marginally less dangerous than sheep and they can break a man's arm with their wings (or that might be swans) so I skedaddled back indoors soonest.
Otherwise the weather hasn't been very photogenic so I've not been far today which is probably a good thing as it seems that I caught the sun yesterday.
