Dean's Bush

I bike through Dean's Bush to and from work. On my way home today I realised I've never blipped the homestead.

The Deans were one of the first European families to settle in Canterbury. Unfortunately the first Deans helpd decide to stick a staff in the middle of a swamp and call it Christchurch. That hasn't turned out to be a fabulous idea.

Pleasingly this survived the earthquakes and repairs and strengthening is complete. It's a gracious landmark surrounded by mature trees set in lawn with a remnant of original bush beside it.

I've been to a talk by the Coastguard tonight. A well done presentation and well worth going to. But I'm drooping now, time for bed.
