Bus Challenge No 59!!

Flying by Lucy Glendinning

Another glorious day so time for another Bus Challenge, this time into completely new territory! I'd asked a friend to join me for today's adventure, but when I told her the destination was Portishead she wrinkled her nose. Once we arrived, however, she completely changed her mind!!

A bus into Bristol and then a second bus heading West towards the Bristol Channel, took us to Portishead. The old dock area has been completely transformed and is now a thriving marina, surrounded by beautifully landscaped apartments and houses, restaurants, bars and cafes. What with the blues skies and sunshine, and the chinking of the sailing boats, we really felt like we were on the Med!

I'd planned a walking route around Portishead that took in the marina, a lovely old pub with wonderful views across the Bristol Channel to the South Wales coast (for a revitalising cider!), along the coast out to the lighthouse, then back along the beach. Three and a half hours later two very happy bus adventurers headed for home, feeling very windswept but with glowing impressions of Portishead!!

This stunning sculpture is just one of the artworks to be found on the Port Marine Public Art trail. My extra photos show you the 'Mediterranean' setting of the sculpture, and a close-up of the figure (can you spot something else 'flying'?)

Bus journey time = 2 hour 23 mins
Waiting time in between buses = 22 mins
Total journey time = 2 hours 45 mins
