"Enclosure Rites"

Exploring a footpath on the Yorkshire Wolds Way disclosed an unusual piece of  art work.

This celebrates the Bronze Age burial mounds or barrows and palisaded enclosures found nearby. The figures refer to the mysterious chalk figurines often found discarded in Iron Age settlements in East Yorkshire. In addition, a dew pond has been created.. These were constructed to provide water for cattle and sheep in the dry chalk landscape. However on closer inspection we found it to be teeming with tadpoles.

A lovely afternoon to explore the Wolds above Wintringham.
