Asparagus & Badminton
Seven of us gathered this evening to cook a meal featuring local seasonal food. I was really tired from the weekend, but went off on my bike with Kate to pick elderflowers by the river then I had planned to go to the farm shop but it was closed for the bank holiday as were all the others around here - arrghh!
Still I scrutinsed the labels in Waitrose and expanded 'local' to beyond Oxfordshire - into Warwickshire and Bucks and Kent even..... and we had a delicious meal featuring some home grown food (Kate's amazing salad leaves) and some shop bought. Lamb flatbreads used local lamb and flour from locally grown heritage wheat and were delicious. Whilst the courgettes and halloumi in the picture weren't local by any stretch the asparagus was grown nearby and delicious. Rhubarb cakes and crumbles and elderflower cream with elderflower fritter to finish off, and several bottles of Bothy vineyard wine later we were stuffed. A few games of no-holds barred badminton in the garden helped us burn off some of those calories.
It was a lovely evening with some very lovely friends.
