There Goes My Hero…
A bit strong personally I’m not going to give him the title hero, though there was a whole lot of love for him tonight in the stadium (including the memorable T shirt slogan “I’d go gay for Dave” accomanpied by the wearers female partners unpublishable homage to Mr Grohl). The Grohlmeister doing what he does outrageously well, leads a rocky, punky, guitar fest/ community sing along like no one else can.
Having picked up Beth I got it down with the youth on the pitch and lipsynched and hollered away to the Foo Fighters tunes wether it was the bitter “Best of You”, the inspirational “Times like these”, or a classy cover of the the Queen/Bowie classic “Under Pressure”(despite feeling like I was the only sober bloke in the stadium this one got me a bit teary when they flashed up an image of Freddie).
All My favourites got a play including
The Pretender as it is great protest song I think for our times (and they aren’t supposed to do them any more)
Keep you in the dark
You know they all pretend
Keep you in the dark
And so it all began
What if I say I'm not like the others?
What if I say I'm not just another one of your plays?
You're the pretender
What if I say I will never surrender?
What if I say I'm not like the others?
What if I say I'm not just another one of your plays?
You're the pretender
What if I say that I'll never surrender?
And…My Hero because it a great tune to sing along to and it reminds me that the true heros are the ordinary, not the celebrity and somehow Dave Grohl manages to sing this in the prescence of adoring tens of thousands with no sense of irony – he’s is genuinly I think just having fun singing and playing with his band like it’s what makes him happiest.
My Hero
There goes my hero
Watch him as he goes
There goes my hero
He's ordinary
