The Queens Birthday!!
We love birthdays in our family. It means we all get together, have a few laughs, eat a delicious meal and scoff down amazing cake made by my mother in law.
Yesterday was my brother in laws birthday and we're celebrating at the weekend. And they tell me they have a whole salmon they're cooking. That's impressive. I don't eat seafood (*have tried seafood just can't get used to it, makes me feel quite squeamish ) but it's still pretty awesome to have a whole salmon to cook.
I was talking with Marley today about what's happening over the next few days, I mentioned that Monday was the Queens Birthday. He stopped and looked at me like the pic above.
In complete excitement loudly questioned what I just said ' THE QUEENS BIRTHDAY!? !? !'
A little deafened from the sudden outburst I replied, 'yes it's the Queens Birthday '.
I realise it's not her actual birthday but there wasn't a need to confuse the poor excited child about that.
He continued on 'Are we going to have lunch and eat cake at the castle with the Queen? '
'no, no sweetheart! we don't go and celebrate with the Queen, we take a day off to celebrate her birthday '
Tis' a little disappointing though we can't go to a castle and eat cake. I get how this would be a fun thing to do.
I realised as I said it, it felt odd, we take a day off to celebrate the Queens Birthday.
I was glad he was happy with this and started talking about planets because if he has asked why we take a day off, I would have had to go in to the whole she's the head of our country, we're part of the commonwealth who are ruled by the monarchy etc ..... Too much info for a 6 year old ( really I mean me to have to think about) on a Thursday afternoon.
Maybe I should go get more information on the Queen and her birthday in case he does ask again. Should also research cake. Not that I can eat it at the moment - stupid non cake eating diet!
