Light at the end of the tunnel?

For Chris and De'Shaun's first day the weather put on its worst. Cold and wet so different from the climate in San Diego where the day time temperatures are around 20C in winter and much warmer in the summer, especially inland away from the cooling breezes on the coast.

Jet lag played havoc with De'Shaun as she went to bed as soon as we arrived home yesterday. Chris stayed up until around 10.00pm which was good going. Not sure quite what happened but they were up making scrambled eggs and coffee at 5.00am and back in bed for another 5 hours or so during this time we braved the elements for a walk around Mote Park.

The afternoon was spent around at Chris's mum's along with Matt and grand-daugher Miya for a family gathering over a buffet lunch. Miya doesn't get to see her Uncle Chris very often, this was the first time for a couple of years so she was really pleased to see him and De'Shaun and sad when she had to go home at the end of the afternoon. We probably ate too much but enjoyed the conversation which covered a wide range of topics.

A quiet evening back here afterwards, enjoying a sandwich tea with some freshly baked scones made from a Paul Hollywood recipe. They were good but not the best I'd ever made but this was the first time I'd used this recipe. Score 40/44 as I think they were a bit doughy and hadn't risen as much as I had hoped.

A black cat came into the garden while we were having tea and was watching most intently below the place on the wall where a pair of great tits are nesting in a box. The cat was unceremoniously shooed away but I'm sure it knows what's going on and will be back. Most worrying. Then darn me, just a little later a fox appeared as bold as you like on top of the hedge and wall but it made its way off without going anywhere near the nest box.
