Times Of My Life

The Bare Necessities of Life

Late night shopping completed.  G and I made a smash 'n grab raid on Mr Tesco to stock up on the most essential items for tomorrow's proposed BBQ.  We now have the means of burning meat, pizza for children who do not like burned meat, and wine for adults who actually do not care that much for meat, burned or otherwise.

I am in this latter category.  I don't really know why I put myself through the torture of the 2 or 3 annual barbecues we try to have; I don't much like meat, and I definitely don't much like meat which has been cooked on a grill and then slapped on a bun.

To be fair, G does all the cooking, and he is much more adventurous than many I know of.  He makes beautiful skewers, and marinades his meat in a variety of different herbs, spices and sauces.  He makes beautiful fruit skewers, and does amazing things with corn on the cob, pineapple, and strawberries.  His potato salad is legend!

I usually spend the entire event stressing - about everything.  I eat very little (I've got some strange food issues), and drink too much because I am nervous - I don't even know about what!

I like it best when everyone has finished eating, and we can just relax, crank up the music, and sit round the chimenea chatting or singing, with a glass of something or other in hand.  And the kids are all running about like lunatics, with the dog joining in.

It's been a terrible day today, so I'm delighted we postponed the event until tomorrow. Please God, no more rain tomorrow!
