Morning run
There's no one around, I can feel the air on my face, I can hear my heartbeat through my music, my breath is even and my feet are steadily striking on the road. And everything slips away. There's nothing but this feeling.
It's taken a while to get here again. I've loved running for so long. But I've also struggled now for over a year - not enjoying most of my runs, fixating and worrying about my injuries. There was a little of that today, but being able to go a half-decent distance without pain felt remarkable.
It feels like I'm falling in love with running again. Except of course it was always there, I'm just rediscovering it. I'm not going to take that for granted again.
I've had my new orthotics for a month now and after my initial setbacks, I didn't imagine I'd be getting on so well at this point. There's still a long way to go, I can't wait to go long distance again but I know it's got to be a slow build. But today, I felt alive again.
These are the ducks at Duddingston Loch, taken on my run.
