Guernica
No Pasaran.
This interesting monumental plaque, representing Guernica, is a memorial on the front facade of Nottinghamshire's County Hall.
It commemorates and honours citizens of Nottinghamshire ( 18 of them) who went to fight in the International Brigade in the Spanish Civil War in 1937/38.
"No Pasaran" translates as "You shall not pass".
"They fought alongside the Spanish people to try to stop the rise of fascism."
The citation reads "They went because they could see no other way."
5 rest in Spain. 13 returned home.
