St Saviours

A lovely church in a lovely area in the centre of the island. It now sits on top of an absolute maze of underground tunnels excavated by slave workers brought here by the Germans during the Occupation. The Rector, Edward Wood, was deported to Germany in 1942 - but returned after the war.

The parish is laced with ruettes tranquilles - little lanes where the pedestrian has priority over the car - and very pretty they are.
