Honningsvag
Gotcha!! The challenge to capture a picture of a puffin. Not the closest, but one of the 800,000 that there were there on the day!!
We docked at Honningsvag, 71 degrees north, well inside the Arctic Circle. We crossed Mageroya Island by coach to the fishing village of Gjesvaer, where we boarded a boat to view the birds on Stappen Island. It wasn’t as cold as I had expected.
There were hundreds of thousands of puffins, gannets, cormorants, guillemots and other birds. It was magnificent to see them all and it was interesting the way they had their various colonies on different islands.
Photographing them was not easy, due to the boat bobbing up and down, and the speed at which the birds travel.
An interesting trip, but I still need to capture a puffin on land and closer up. A challenge for next year after we have completed the house move.
The extra photo shows the colourful houses in Honningsvag, they certainly brighten up the long winter days.
We are now sailing south and are heading for Tromso tomorrow.
This blip was posted late, as I couldn't get internet connection last night.
