Diary of an Edinburgher

Beach visit

All year I've been meaning to go in the car with JR to her place of work by the beach in the early morning. Suddenly we're in the last week of term, so today was the day. We had the beach to ourselves. No dogs. But no seagull carcasses either... He had a nice time trotting along, carefully keeping his feet out of the waves.

We stopped at the duck pond on the way home, where Archie had paddle and stared in wonder at two nearby swans, who stared back at him, though not in wonder.

A wee snooze for Archie, while had my morning coffee  and watched a bit of tennis at Eastbourne.

Talking of coffee pods... I read that they are such an environmental disaster, as we consume billions of the little blighters. And my three a day for 365 days is... oooh, quite a lot. If last year’s spent coffee pods were taken out of landfills and lined up side by side, they’d wrap around the globe 10.5 times (who works out these things? And who checks if they're right?). They contain coffee grounds, but are made of plastic and metal, so how to dispose of them? I rang the council for advice, but was told there was a 15 minute wait...

With our new-found freedom in the use of the car for the day, we then went up Blackford Hill. It was glorious - sunshine, fluffy white clouds, warm, no wind. The dogs and the dog walkers were enjoying their walks today. Often it's only the dogs! We met Eddie, a tiny wee black poodle cross, who scooted around with Archie lumbering along behind him like an old man. Until he gave up.

More afternoon tennis to watch. BBQ No 2 has been mentioned for this evening. But we may have spoken too soon...
