Day 45 streaking

Wow I survived!!

After being awake for 30 hours I managed to complete 4 x 8k (5 mile) laps of the course!

Most of Team Twinings completed 4 laps each, one member managed an extra lap because I finished my last lap at 11:45am he got an extra one in before the cut off time of 12pm.

So in total we clocked up 200km or 125 miles between us.

Race recap:

We decided to run in alphabetical order. With my name beginning with "S" I ran last. The race started at 12pm Saturday on the dot. My lap times were 4pm, 11:20pm, 4am and 10:55am. This meant I had organise when to eat and take my gels and sleep. Sleep didn't happen because by the time I'd finish my lap I was buzzing and couldn't sleep, went to get some food and down a protein shake.

The course was brutal, the first km was up hill, so after 500m I walked because I wasn't going to push myself so early as I have 7.5k to go and more laps! This race is about endurance not speed. As its a trail run inside a forest the track was up, down, uneven and narrow. The other big hill was after a km of down hill from 4k to 5k. As I ran past "Al's Pub" where you could get energy gels and shots and also the sparkly party truck..what I saw was the helter skelter of doom!! 800km of up and up and round and up! Well what goes up must come down..so the next 2k was great as it was mostly down hill and along the course was fairy lights and real life fairies and other volunteers to cheer us on! The last km was running on site into the festival, it was amazing with people shouting and cheering us on and speared us on until the finish line...with a sprint finish of course. No matter how tired, there's always time for a sprint finish!

It was quite emotional and inspirational seeing people along the way who were running/walking solo for 24 hours! The oldest person on the course was a 82 year old hero called Peter. There was a group of firemen who carried a oxygen tank in their backs.

The actual festival was great, really well organised. A huge food tent that served food and drink all night. All night massage tent. Showers and the toilets was amazingly clean and always stocked with toilet paper. The atmosphere was heart warming, you would a hear a "well done" each time someone ran or walked past you.

The bling..well what can I say about the bling! It was pure heavy metal and well worth the pain and tiredness!

If you like a challenge I would definitely recommend this.

That's another 20 miles to add to my 1000 mile challenge :)
