Where are duck family going?

Is the question a few of us were asking. As we watched this vessel enter the Muirton Locks, a staircase of six locks on the Caledonian Canal, so Mrs Duck and her family of nine, decide to enter the lock as well. Despite a half hearted attempt by a lock keeper to turn the family round, they kept going forward, and entered the second lock. After this I couldn't see them, but another lock keeper told me they had gone over the overflow the other day, with grave consequences - two tiny ducklings lost. It seems that mum isn't the brightest in putting her family in peril again. But I guess it's hard for a duck to know what a lock is. There are no pics of the confused brood as a shot of them deep down in the dark the bowels of  lock would have served no purpose. Of their fate, we shall keep you informed.
