Cliveden House
The Fountain of Love
DESIGNED AND CARVED IN ROME BY THOMAS WALDO STORY (1855-1915);
According to 1st Lord Astor's note of 1920, 'The female figures are supposed to have discovered the fountain of love and to be experiencing the effects of its wonderful elixir.'
A fittingly erotic sculpture at the entrance to the house (Cliveden) that became the setting for key events of the notorious Profumo Affair in the 1960’s.
We met blipper JanJen and her family here today for a wonderful tour of the gardens with a fantastic lunch to follow. JanJen and Igor have both posted different views from the back of the house. My extra shot also shows the view from the back terrace of the house overlooking the Dene Valley and the River Thames.
