Bath Bun Blipmeet!!
Spent a very enjoyable morning in Bath having a Blipmeet with the lovely Feather, who happened to be in town for a few days. We'd never met before but it was like meeting a long-lost friend, Blippers are such wonderful people! (Feather, I think our next Blipmeet should be in Singapore, or Sydney!!)
Over a cuppa, we discussed the world of Blip, along with everything else under the sun, then went for a meander around the highways and byways of Bath, before ending up at The Bath Bun tea shop for my first ever Bath Bun!!
"Dr William Oliver is believed to be the creator of the Bath Bun... he was born near Penzance on the 4th August 1695. At the age of 19 he went to Pembroke College, Cambridge, graduating M.B. in medicine in 1720...
In 1728 he moved to Bath. Oliver went on to found the Bath General Hospital (now known as The Royal Hospital for Rheumatic Diseases) with Ralph Allen, John Wood and Richard (Beau) Nash... Dr Oliver first invented the Bath Bun for his patients, and its rich sweet flavour proved so popular for many of them it proved to be their undoing. The Bun laced with sugar and fruit was so delicious that many of the patients, whom he was treating for rheumatism, were becoming too fat on them. Consequently it is believed that Oliver experimented and developed the plainer less fattening Bath Oliver biscuits." www.thebathbun.com
(An early, and a rather rushed blip as I'm out this evening for a pre-birthday dinner at Bath's famous Pump Rooms. If I get back in time tonight, I'll try and add an extra photo of this beautiful building. Life's bit of a chaotic whirlwind at the mo, I just have to keep gritting my teeth and make it through until Monday, then I can collapse in a heap and finally relax!!)
(EXTRA PHOTO OF PUMP ROOMS NOW ADDED!)
