Only the best will do

Day 2 of Corbridge Chamber Music Festival. We attended 3 concerts but rested this afternoon instead of going to the masterclass.

The coffee concert was music by 20th century English composers: Milford's Phantasy Quintet, Hurlstone's Trio in G minor for Clarinet, bassoon and piano and Vaughan Williams Piano Quintet in C minor. I particularly enjoyed the Milford.

The first evening concert was all Beethoven, with his'Sting Quartet in F minor, the violin sonata in G major and the Archduke Piano Trio.

At 10pm the real fun began with Late Night Americana.  We heard Joh Williams Air and Simple Gifts for clarinet, violin, cello and piano. Then Chamber Folk Music by Tibor Serly, a Hungarian who emigrated to the USA. Elliott Carter Au Quai for bassoon and viola was the most challenging piece. The performers' enthusiasm was infectious.

Finally Bohuslav Martinu's La Reve de Cuisine for clarinet, bassoon, trumpet, cello, violin and piano. (Not a very likely grouping.).

Superb. Such fun. A feast of delights. Now bed and we start again in the morning..........
