Magaluf
Early morning trek for No 3 on a lovely little pony called Pancho. He was so tiny we could fit him in our hand luggage.
This afternoon we drove to Magaluf for the pirate show. This was the show I had mistakenly booked for the wrong date and the ticket vendor kindly reissued new tickets after we didn't show up. That was a relief.
Magaluf is better than I thought. I expected 'sun, sex and suspicious parents' and there were some seedy looking bars on the strip, but it has a nice beach, clean toilets and the food and merchandise is priced a lot cheaper than in our resort. In fact Mr S compared the local Aldi (where we bought lunch) to Waitrose ! A few T shirts bought and we still had time to check out the 1.5 million Euro yachts for sale in nearby Portals Nous where we stopped for an overpriced Haagen Dazs. A far cry from nearby Shagaluf.
The pirate show was amazing. An expensive treat recommended by a friend in Blighty, and the over zealous merchandising was annoying but expected(pirate cutlasses, costumes, photos etc). More annoying was the Ryanair-style offer of 'Fastpass' entry as we queued outside in the hot sun.
However we had a pleasant (but sweaty) wait and chatted to the couple behind us, Mardi and Bob. Mardi has just published her first book (to great reviews) - you can check it out here.
Unfortunately for them they had to share our table too! the food was hot, tasty and served/cleared quickly. The pirates were hot an tasty too!
The show was a holiday highlight for the girls, and enough pirate beefcake for even a dedicated vegetarian like Mardi. They also do an adult only show later in the evening.
Great family entertainment, a nice way to round off our holiday.
