Finally, the Outer Banks

Kill Devil Hills to be precise. A little busier than the last time we were here, partly due to location as there are some hotels up this way and partly due to the fact this is the last big week of summer for the resorts/condos as many of the surrounding states will be back in school soon. I would love to be here after Labor Day, but alas, the husband has school next week. This was from yesterday AM's walk and there are sanderlings, an occasional willet and a few ruddy turnstones like this guy on the beach. One of the things I liked about this area is that you still see these birds on the beach , unlike more northern beaches which have far greater crowds of humans.  He is less "ruddy"  as his breeding plumage is fading slowly into his winter wear. He was after a sand crab.Well , today is actually Monday and we will be off to Pea Island, a wildlife/bird refuge soon.
