Winning Goal

Well, today I took my best mate Eamonn to see his first ever senior soccer match, a friendly between the club I have supported since I was a small boy, Shamrock Rovers and Malmo FF of Sweden. The clubs last met late last year in Sweden when Malmo won 2-0.
Today, Rovers made life difficult for themselves by letting a goal in after only 4 minutes and equalised with a really good header from ace striker Gary Twigg 5 minutes later. Early in the second half Malmo missed a penalty and thinds remained level until about 12 minutes from the end when Malmo scored the winner from a close free kick by their number 8. Here the ball heads for the net with the Rovers defence left standing like spectators at a parade. That's Rovers in their new alternative strip of purple and black, the normal kit being green and white hoops. So, 2-1 to Malmo and a very happy Eamonn who came home with a smile like a child in a candy store.
