It Worked

Well. the monsters will not be having another sleepover anytime soon after last nights performance!
And this morning was no better.

So - this afternoon, to calm my temper I went into the garage to try and make a piece on the lathe.
It is something I was going to start when I picked up this chest infection (and probably shouldn't be doing yet) but would require a focused mind so now was the time.............

It is a 3 'bowl' piece on a single bit of burr elm.
It meant having to mount it 3 times and it would be severely out of balance as it turned. So it had to be turned slowly with a lot of care to make sure that fingers were kept well away at all times.
To enable turning the piece and still keep depth for the 'bowls' I had to attach a plank with glue on the back (which I had done previously). Unfortunately it wasn't quite wide enough to accept the faceplate for the last 'bowl', so I had to cobble something together (see 1st extra).
When I had done turning and sanding (another risky operation) I had to remove the plank. This meant running it through the planning machine a few times. That meant that I didn't lose any depth and ended up with a flat base for it to sit on when it is finished (see 2nd extra).

All it needs now is to be coated in sanding sealer, sanded and finished which means it will be ready for the craft association's 'show & tell' on Wednesday.
