Waiting on a train - #MyBordersRailway
Oooh Cha Cha Cha - Flash and the Pan!
Gorebridge has been waiting for a train since The Waverley Line shut 46 years ago and this is it finally arriving to take us on our Golden Ticket journey down to Tweedbank, back up to Edinburgh then back to our starting point. Sunday sees the line open up to the public, I think I will try it into work soon.
It was a fun day, I love travelling by train anyway but to do so through the lovely countryside where we've lived for the past 20 years was special. Going over the 160 year old Lothianbridge viaduct was my favourite.
We all got a bag with an opening day brochure, pin badge and box of food tasters from producers in the area. Arriving at Waverley station we were greeted by a piper, a massive chocolate Flying Scotsman (my fav since I was 8) and a performance by children from schools along the line including Ms H's old primary - some welcome faces in the troupe and audience! I am sure we'll be doing it again as Mrs C will want to do it too. There's a few "extra" covering our journey and some blipping trainspotters!
The Borders Railway is the longest new domestic railway to be constructed in Britain for over 100 years taking 2 and a half years to complete... I really hope it is a success and not only can it be extended to lines in the south, but similar projects are initiated to restore the network around the country!
