Diary of an Edinburgher

Twin towers

While browsing the 'Quiet Edinburgh' website (ie no muzak cafes/pubs/restaurants) the other day, I spotted a new Falko Konditorei cafe. It's a German bakery/cafe. There is one in Bruntsfield, and one in Gullane - both are always mobbed. They are muzak-free and dog friendly. And with cakes! What's not to love?

And so we took a jaunt out to East Lothian this morning. And what a day it was - sunny, blue skies, warm, still. Almost like summer...

We found the 'Secret Garden' in Cockenzie, and what a little gem it is. With outdoor seating too. Cockenzie House has lovely gardens and is full of independent artists and wee shops selling their wares. We were tempted by a few paintings, but have no wall space left. But a little pottery mermaid could not be left there...

From there we had a walk to the next harbour - all of half a mile - which is part of the John Muir Way, which goes right around the coast to Berwick. Archie would have fun, despite the car journey. Next time.

I took lots of photos with the twin chimney stacks of the now decomissioned power station in the background. I rather like them, they've been there for nearly 50 years, but they are soon to be demolished/blown up.

Popped to visit Uncle A in the afternoon with a cake, and we were able to bang a couple of nails in the wall to hang things for him. He's looking more and more settled each time we visit.

Back home in time to welcome Archie home from his 'holiday'. He's had a good time, and made instant friends with the resident Rotweiler and Chihuahua, the latter being the tetchy one who generally doesn't like other dogs. Good boy Archie!

What a good day all round!
