Bolton Abbey

Who would have expected a beautiful, hot, sunny day like this after all the dire weather forecasts? Made the most of it and headed first for the Ribblehead Viaduct in the hope of seeing a steam train cross, which we'd been told they do on Wednesdays. Sadly, they seem to have stopped now, so we had to make do with a two-carriage electric train instead.
We had lunch sitting in the sunshine looking out at Pen-y-Ghent topped with fluffy white clouds in a blue sky, before driving on to Skipton. We had intended to look at the Castle there, but it was far too nice to be indoors, so we continued on to Bolton Abbey.

I was convinced we'd been there before, but must have mixed it up with Byland Abbey, so it was a lovely treat to visit for the first time:-). My husband was keen to cross the river on the stepping stones, but I managed to dissuade him and he was glad of that when we saw another man miss his footing and get a very wet leg!

Another day of wonderful scenery in the Dales:-)
