Dunbar Town House

To celebrate our day of freedom from builders we went for a pootle round East Lothian, with coffee and baking at the cafe in Tyninghame, watching a late brood of swallows in their nest, then a wander round Dunbar.

Dunbar Town House was looking particularly attractive against the blue sky. Built towards the end of the 16th century, it contains what is considered Scotland's oldest functioning Council Chamber, and, following refurbishment, is now open to the public, with museum and gallery exhibition space.  The extra photo is a closeup of the sundial, which reads the correct time, though the house has three timepieces, details of which may be seen here. In front are the remains of the old Mercat Cross. Leaving the harbour we found a delicious lunch at Creel Restaurant, wandered down some interesting little wynds,  before taking the backest of back lanes, the 'pretty way', home. Who says women can't read a map?
