Bugis Market

Some of the ones we left behind. We spent our last day in Singapore on the streets. Watching the locals going about their business in busy street markets, the workers dismantling the lights, barriers and stands around the Grand Prix circuit and the tourists and expats in the expensive and very western looking Orchard Road shopping malls. The haze was particularly bad so we decided against going on the Singapore Flyer big wheel as the views would have been poor. Rather, we spent our time on the streets and in the markets, sometimes outdoors, sometimes indoors depending on how warm we were and how close we were to the Air Conditioned Malls.
Sadly or luckily, Mohammed Liverpools stall was shut at the Newton Circus Hawker Market (he has changed his name by deed pole). We had been looking forward to meeting this fanatical Liverpool FC supporter and good friend of Bernie O'Sullivan's, but we would have undoubtably eaten his Chilli crab, his crayfish and local curry and then how would we have managed the last night feast that Anand had prepared for us at North Border Restaurant - Soft shell crab wraps, Crab cakes, Lobster Thermidor, Duck Confit and Italian Semifreddo ice cream. After our meal we sat on the terrace talking with "Chef" Anand as the staff closed the restaurant around us. An interesting, atmospheric and relaxed finish to our holiday which just emphasised the reasons why we had enjoyed our stay here so much. We were sad to step in to the taxi that was to take us to the airport for our 2.30 am flight home via Doha.
