Mushroom season

This mushroom is oddly shaped. Or has it been purposedly chopped by someone to make it look like this? l saw this on the little park between two houses near my new place. There was another smaller uninteresting mushroom near this one but I didnt bother taking a photo of it just because it didnt have a story to tell. Can anyone tell if it's edible or poisonous?
