At Sea
I am not a person who complains or demands to be moved in hotels because I don't like the room.
Last night I said to Mr K that I don't remember the cabin being so loud last year. There was a loud constant whooshing noise like the roar you get on an aeroplane.
At 5am this morning it woke me up and became unbearably annoying. I sat there getting more and more upset before waking Mr K up and deciding to go out for an early walk to watch the sunrise and get a cup of tea.
It was funny being pretty much the only people about on such a big ship.
We went to the Purser's Office and explained the problem. A lovely man in a uniform came up to the cabin with us and agreed that the noise got worse and worse as you walked up the corridor and reached peak loudness right at our door!
The funnel he said!
Within an hour we were packed and moved to a new cabin. Far away from the funnel.
And - rather pleasingly - in the posh section of the ship!!
The rest of the day was spent mostly eating, sitting around and eating cocktails!
The day flew by despite the fact we did nothing!
The eating and drinking was interrupted only by a talk in the morning by a marine historian about the history of Cunard. It's their 175th Anniversary this year and it was so interesting hearing about the beginnings of the company, the war involvement, the days of the great Transatlantic liners, the story of the Carpethia rescuing Titanic survivors, the sinking of the Lusitania. I could have listened to him all day.
There are dozens of pictures I could have chosen for today. Most of which I took last year too!! A wonderful lazy, sunny day at sea!
Tonight was the formal night - a gala dinner and a big band ball. It was lovely getting all dressed up . And Mr K looked gorgeous in his bow tie!
Obviously he was wearing a dinner suit and dress shirt too!!!!!
Ha ha!
After dinner we continued working our way through the cocktail menu. The fantastic Colin looked after us brilliantly. And didn't hesitate to laugh at Mr K's penchant for girly cocktails!!!
