Amsterdam

When I woke up this morning I was excited to see Amsterdam so dashed over to the window to look. I had to laugh because I could see nothing but fog! You could just about make out the outline of the terminal building!
We stayed in bed and had a lovely pre-breakfast breakfast.
Just a light meal of pastries, fruit platters, hot chocolate, smoothies, muffins, eggs, bacon and hash browns!!
We went up to the Lido buffet for more tea and a bit more food and were met with views of more fog. We could see nothing out of the other side of the ship!
The forecast was for better weather later in the morning so we wrapped up and set off into the fog to see if we could find Amsterdam.
It's only about a ten minute walk from the dock to the city . We had planned to get on one of the hop on-hop off canal buses which stops near the ship but unfortunately you couldn't buy tickets with a credit card and - because Mr K and I displayed our usual level of foresight and organisation - we'd come away without any cash whatsoever!!
So we walked to the train station and spent about half an hour searching for a cashpoint.
Eventually we were solvent and bought a ticket for the hop on-hop off boat.
We waited ages before hopping on, got a rubbish seat, couldn't see anything, couldn't hear the commentary, got cross and hopped off as soon as we could.
There's €46 we'll never see again!!!
I was much happier when we were walking. We walked back along Prinsengracht the way we'd just come. It was gloriously sunny and Amsterdam looked beautiful.
There were lots of bikes, Autumn leaves, canal side bars selling yummy beer, stalls selling delicious churros (because it had been at least two hours  since we ate!!!!) The canals were sparkling and it was all just brilliant!!!
We headed to the fascinating Our Lord in the Attic Museum. It's a Seventeenth Century merchant's house with a secret church built into the attic when Catholicism was outlawed in the Netherlands.
The house was exactly as it would have been at the time - kitchens, drawing rooms, bedrooms. So interesting! And then you find yourself upstairs in the beautiful church in the attic. Complete with priests house, confessional and vestry.
Mr K - a devout atheist - was keen to visit and if I'm honest I thought it sounded a bit dull but the whole house was really fascinating. A glimpse into Seventeenth Century Amsterdam life.
Then it was time to head back aboard. A quick reviving cocktail in the Commodore and then a snooze before dinner.
Then a quick pre-bed cocktail before collapsing into bed.
It's exhausting!!!
