Faffing with a Fairy
And you would never believe the number of shots I took and the amount of faffing I've done to achieve this result! It made me think it ought to have a poem to accompany it.
(I was going to cheat and use one of Cicely Mary Barker's Flower Fairy poems, but her beautiful artwork far outweighed her poetic talent - or it did with the Holly Fairy, at any rate. So if you think mine's bad, spare a thought!)
High in the Holly
High in the holly, with prickly wings,
a small autumn fairy contentedly swings.
When sweet peas and swallows of summer are gone
this evergreen fairy will still swing along.
The sun and a smile on her little round face
show holly, for her, is a wonderful place.
Where we'd prick our fingers, our elbows and knees,
this leafy green fairy is easy to please:
In fine, spiky leaves she will always be jolly,
swinging on high in the bright, shiny holly.
