New arrivals
Back to earth with a bump. A year ago, we were off on our honeymoon, today, we took delivery of 6 cattle, the ones that were supposed to arrive on Friday, then were due to arrive on Monday, but instead he bought them today, just as we were sitting down to lunch, obviously.
None of that matters though, as these will always be a special group of cows and a couple of Ox, because they are our first. A pecking order is already being established between them and whilst they are a pretty motley crew, they're ours and it's a big step. The pen they are in still needs work (the trough needs filling in) and in time, we are building a brand new pen for them, rather than adapting an old one. But these are the guys to help us do it as unbeknownst to them, they're going to earn us money.
Suffice to say, they kept Dirk pretty busy for the afternoon branding and inoculating them, so I went on a water and milk run, which just happened to co-incide with tea time with the neighbours, so had a lovely afternoon with them before heading back to the farm.
During the boy's dinner, I decided to call the grand parents to 'share' the joy of a child covered in various pureed foods, weirdly, my mother called at the exact same time, even more weirdly, on Friday I called my sister (for the first time in a couple of months - oops, only for her to have just written me an email (for the first time in a couple of months - it's not just me).
