A November Bouquet

Dear Diary,

November here in Maine means "No Flowers" but there are still grasses, cat tails and winter berries.  I use the old vase that stood on the mantle in the house I grew up in.  This time of year it usually held dried Money Plant.  Now I fill it with whatever is growing in the garden.

I picked a whole bunch of winter berries and put them in the barn to keep cool until I could use them but I will have to go pick some more because the squirrels have had a feast on them and they are just sticks now.  I'll wait until I need them though this time!

With one week to go before Thanksgiving I will begin my preparations by making a shopping list.  There will be a lot of cooking next week.  Thanksgiving is one of my favorite holidays and I've gotten out the carving set that belonged to my great grandfather.  Its blade is so thin now from constant sharpening that I am a bit nervous about using it now so it sits symbolically on the sideboard in a place of honor.
