the party

Somehow, we managed to get to the special needs childrens Christmas party today.

Kanye had an awful night of seizures. He had around 3-4 then a  6 minute one that we had to give him midazolam intrabucally to stop. It took him a further 7 minutes to come back from it.

We contemplated an ambulance but it was 3am and Andre wasn't keen on then being up the rest of the night/morning.

Kanye was ok just typically if it goes past 5 minutes they like to see them at hospital just to observe and do blood tests etc in case of status epilepticus

We've learnt over time things to look for that need an ambulance but he was breathing ok, he hadn't vomited, his pupils reacted to light and he wasn't injured.

 During an active seizure they don't respond to pain ie pinching back of hand or earlobe but post ictal ( post seizure) they may respond to pain by flinching but not be completely conscious yet to verbally respond or bat your hand away, that means the seizure is over and their brain is finding its bearings again.

So we let him sleep, that's the best thing an epileptic can do is sleep. It helps heal the brain and recover form short circuiting- sort of like how you have to reset clocks when there's a power outage and switch everythign back on. Same thing happens in his brain. Temporary power outage.

He got up in the morning like nothing had happened which was unusual. After a seizure that big it can take him most of the day to sleep and recover and even then hes groggy, grumpy and tired.

We went to the party put on for the kids by the media company nz, there were storm troopers, bouncy castles, food, ice creams, sit on santas lap, celebrities and presents. All children that go get presents. Andre has been here the past few years so he knows how it goes and was first in line to choose the boys gifts.

The boys had a great time but Kanye started losing his ability to cope after an hour so we went home. I dropped off some stuffed bears the boys go to my nephews. My sister in law this afternoon had her first public appearance singing at a place in town, shes a wonderful singer and is part of a band. 

We unfortunately missed it we were so tired, so we went home and the boys lay around playing with their new toys while we rested.

All pretty tired tonight.
