Battle Abbey

Battle Abbey was a gift from the newly crowned King William after his successful invasion of Britain.
It's only about 12 miles from where I've lived for about 30 years, yet I've not explored it properly before today.
This is part of the dormitory: the Common Room, and was actually constructed later than the main Abbey, during a 13th Century rebuilding campaign.

I just can't understand how the architects and builders managed this 700 years ago.
