Der zerbrochne Krug
There is a famous Bauerntheater play called der zerbrochne Krug by Heinrich von Kleist (The Broken Mug), which I watched while I lived in Germany. It's delivered in broad Bavarian accent and dialect, so I stood out in the audience like a sore thumb; the only theatre-goer who didn't laugh at the appropriate punchlines.
I thought of this when I broke this, my favourite German Bierkrug, in the washing-up bowl this morning. I've had it since before I returned from München, the capital of Freistaat Bayern, in 1991.
The design advertises a Bockbier (a Starkbier of about 6.5%) from the Paulaner brewery called Salvator.
