Beautiful Plockton

It was late on Sunday when we decided to go as far as Plockton with David on the train. So Monday morning we set off in snow and ice, so glad we did nt have to drive far, and parked the car in Dingwall. A wonderful train journey chugging along through a snow covered landscape. As soon as we reached the other side of the hills the sun shone down making Loch Carron a brilliant blue. The white cottages on the other side of the loch looked so pretty all lined up along the waterfront. Lots of deer scampered away as the train approached.
We said goodbye to David as he continued on to Kyle of Lochalsh and we walked the 20 minutes or so down an icy hill to the Plockton hotel where we were staying for the night.
We quickly dumped our bags in the lovely room with fantastic views down Loch Carron and started to explore. We like Plockton and have been several times but has usually been a stop on our way to Skye so it was nice to have the rest of the day to really explore.
Wonderful light and pretty scenery, boats bobbing about as the tide went out and the sounds of birds tweeting in the trees, including the Palm Trees.
We walked all around the little village with it's interesting houses up to the top of the road with stunning views across to Skye and back down the Brae walk. We went to the Plockton Inn for lunch of celery soup and an open salmon and cream cheese sandwich, delicious.
A walk cross the waterway and down to the marine and saw the fish and prawns being loaded into the vans to be whisked off to hotels near and far.
Walking back we watched the sunset. Back to the hotel and a coffee by the open fire. Mike had a phone call to make so I had a soak in the bath.
Then dinner, scallops starter and char grilled prawns for me. It made me smile as the Australian chef, Bill Granger was sitting on the next table and had ordered prawns too, more scrimps for the Barbie :)
We were going to stay in but noticed there may be an aurora and the chance to see Geminid meteor shower. So out we went again and were treated to several shooting stars flashing across the clear sky and glimpses of a the green glow of the Aurora. Not really knowing the are a we did nt know where to go and with no car we were limited but we had a good sighting ,just needed to turn the street lights out and move the mountains ;)
We walked by a house that was covered in all directions , including the garden, with every type of Christmas light possible.
