Elephant encounter
Today we had a rather close encounter with an elephant. Each morning, the elephants seem to have their morning 'walk' and get to frolic in the river running along the bottom of the campsite. We went down to the waters edge to see them - and to rescue our friends three children who were getting a little too inquisitive watching three elephants cavort in the water. In the background, a fourth elephant appeared - but decided against joining his friends, instead walked over towards where we were standing, ending up about 20 metres away from us. In the background, the children mother was watching and thankfully slightly closer were the elephant handlers. We quietly moved up onto the bridge nearby and quietly chastised the now bored children of starting to play up. Their mother was not so reserved in explaining to them the error of their ways in getting quite so close and then not listening to us. Thankfully, the elephant also got bored and eventually moved off. Phew.
Dirk went off for a lovely bike ride in the afternoon with his friend from school and a bit of exercise afterwards, I kept the boy company for his afternoon sleep and thoroughly enjoyed being in a tent and hearing the gentle pitter patter of rain outside.
