Helter-skelter

A lovely day!

Had a terrific day at Wakehurst with a group of seven and eight year olds. We went down to the woods where they investigated the differences between a sunny (yes, sunny!) woodland area and then a more damp, shady area then they did an ephemeral art activity. After lunch we went on a story stick trail round the garden. This is where the children are given a small hazel branch with some rubber bands around it and they can put things that they find on it, like interesting leaves, feathers, pine cones or flowers, and take it home as a reminder of their day. I think it's lovely for them and, of course, they can take the stick to other places they may go in the future too, like the beach or a park. It was one of those days when the adults seemed to have as much fun as the children, which is when I like it best!

This shot isn't very clear because the high humidity was steaming up my camera lens but it's some of the leaves and seed pods of the huge Monkey Puzzle Tree that we could see from the woods.
