Lupins

Heading towards Milford Sound having spent the night at Te Anau, we dodged the buses that were on a slightly tighter schedule. Our boat was booked for the next morning but the tours went there and back in a day so had limited time at the beauty spots on the way. We stopped to see the lupins (invasive weeds), the mirror pools, the mountains and the tunnels. Well, tunnel actually. There is only one and it has the feeling of not yet being complete. We arrived at Milford Sound Lodge in time to book in to our 6 person bunk room and then take to take a trip to the end of the road and marvel at the Sound and, in particular, Mitre Peak. Our cruise booked for tomorrow morning early, so an early night for us campers after a home made meal of pasta eaten in the open air whilst admiring the local biting insects. The sand flies are larger than midges so easier to swat and catch, but their bites are just as itchy.
