Observations in time

Probably not

An interesting visit to the Turner Prize exhibition at the Tramway in Glasgow today with S.
This followed my Make it Happen committee at TPS where we made awards to two groups and lots of individuals.
The group of people recovering from substance misuse wanted football strips for their team and a group of recently rehoused long stay hospital patients with mental health problems wanted a set of furniture for their  outside space.
They also asked for £100 to have it bolted to the concrete in their newly created garden in Greenock!

A group of TPS service users from Glasgow visited the latter group and were amazed at the differences and also similarities in the difficulties their problems had caused for their lives.

When we look at people battling drug misuse and homelessness do we see what they see?

We enjoyed the exhibits by the London based collective (Assemble) who won the prize this year. They were asked to improve the houses and the neighbourhood in collaboration with the residents of Toxteth, Liverpool, who had set up a community land trust. This was in an attempt to rescue and reclaim some houses in the run down streets-the Granby Four Street Project.
A great example of art making something happen-they have reclaimed materials from the rubble of the houses and made them into objects for sale. They now run a social enterprise supporting young people to create things of beauty.
Braw!
