Mural Monday

Yes, I do know it's not Monday, but I thought it sounded better than Mural Tuesday.

Vernor's Ginger Ale was created in Detroit in 1866, by pharmacist James Vernor. He was trying to recreate a ginger drink that he had tried in Dublin, Ireland. After mixing many ingredients together, he put them all into an oak barrel. But, then he got called off to war. 4 years later, he returned home, cracked open the barrel, and voila...Vernors was born.

It is now available in 33 states, but Michigan is responsible for 80 per cent of its sales.

Some people heat it up, and use it for tummy aches. My favorite is adding it to vanilla ice cream to make a Boston Cooler.

The giant mural is located in downtown Flint, Mi. This is my first ever blip taken with my phone, but if you look close...you can see the "gnomes" that supposedly make the drink. One of them is "Woody", the head gnome.

The company has gone from being owned by Pepsi, A & W, and now by Dr. Pepper. If you ever get a chance...give it a whirl...especially with ice cream.

It is still aged in wooden barrels, but now only for 3 years.
