Down by the river
A return visit today to Lymington, which has grown to become one of my favourite spots on the south coast.
I have been coming here for years it’s only just over a half-hour drive from home and I always find something interesting to do in the town.
Today, being Saturday was the weekly street market which always makes the place a bit busy and attracts visitors from miles around as well as the purely locals — me for example, although I didn’t have to drive to get there today and was able to sit in the passenger seat — and yes, I will admit that I might have had a quite snooze on the way home.
But just mooching on the quayside is fascinating enough, although there was not a great deal of activity on the river today, apart from a few swans and seabirds around the water’s edge anxious to snaffle anything in the shape of food they could find.
The quay itself is a working landing point for fishing and seafood activity and hence the lobster pots neatly stacked when we were there. I’ve always found particular satisfaction whenever I can buy whole crab which you know are as fresh as it can be.
The purpose of today’s visit was for lunch, but more on that on another occasion.
