1892....

....the year the man who is buried here died--he was born in 1822. This statue just caught my eye..... She's facing the gravestone--is it the grieving widow who is still standing by his side??  I found it amazing that even though this monument is 124 years old, there must still be descendants who care enough to visit the grave, to put rosaries around the neck of his  widow and to place flowers in her hands. Interesting!

On a lighter note, today is my birthday, & both my daughters have skyped/face-timed me already this morning so I've gotten to see all the granddaughters too--Jen's came through as we were going through the cemetery, & she couldn't stop laughing---she said "Leave it to dad to take you somewhere exciting on your birthday!" Haha! Actually he'd just taken me out to breakfast and since we weren't far from the cemetery he'd wanted to stop and check on his great-grandmother's headstone, which had begun to tip precariously last fall. He and his brother had propped it up and secured it and he wanted to make sure it had held up (which it had)!
Going out to dinner tonight, and tomorrow starts my final countdown--3 days of work, the last of which is Friday, and then I'll be officially retired!! Yay!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!    :))
