Robin's perch

Just thought I  would spend a rare couple of hours in the garden, moving what's left of the loads of leaves which fell in the autumn . . .and no sooner had I begun, than I was joined by this little fella again.
Back in November every time I ventured into the garden to clear leaves — and that seemed to be a never ending task from late September, all the way through October and well into November — little robin was there, flitting around only a few feet away.
It was as if the little fella was tame and wanted to be friends. In reality I guess he was more interested in the occasional worms I was unearthing beneath the wet leaves.
Even so, he was flitting about, and really it was no surprise today that the moment I started to pull out rain soaked leaves from around this hydrangea, my little friend was there.
He would flit from the hydrangea itself to the pile of leaves I had just raked, and then as I carried them to a heap where I hope they will eventually rot and turn into leaf mould, little fella was there as well, occasionally hopping into a hedgerow, and then back again.
In past times we regularly put out bird seed to attract sparrows, finches and different varieties of tits, and in a manner of speaking this time of year they brought the garden to life.  Trouble is the seed they discarded also attracted squirrels which in itself was not a disaster until they tried to make home in our roof. But the discarded seed also attracted rodents, and that we did draw the line at.
If only all the wildlife which came into the garden at that time was as timid as our little robin and his friends, we'd be very happy.
