One of the finest

The weather did not look too promising, so we decided to explore nearby Warkworth. We can only remember being here once before and both of us recall lots of people and nowhere to park. Neither of these were problems today! 

We parked in the market square and walked to the 14th century fortified bridge and the Norman Church, following the River Coquet as it meanders around the town. The sun came out briefly to give lovely views of the castle. Our walk eventually took us back up to the castle, an impressive place dating back to 1139. The extra picture shows one of Turner’s paintings of the castle.  There are many castles in Northumberland, this is certainly one of the finest . . . even though it was closed for the winter.
  
And then, just as we were about to return to the car, we found a wonderful place – Cabosse, (Chocolaterie/Patisserie). We had croissants and Camembert – fabulous. Then I had the best hot chocolate I have ever come across and Gordon indulged in a Rum Baba, a special favourite of his and declared it the best ever too. All handmade on the premises by a talented lady, Louise Frederique. If you are ever in the Warkworth area, this place is a must.
