On that yellow chair are tangerines and Meyer lemons, picked moments earlier just steps away. That's the entrance to our Airbnb cottage in Escondido, California, not far from San Diego.

We flew from Bellingham to Palm Springs this morning, and it was a thrill to get off the plane and see blue skies and palm trees! The drive from Palm Springs to Escondido took longer than expected, so we were glad to arrive at this lovely place and start settling in.

Tomorrow's day trip is less than 10 miles away -- Stone Brewing, one of Phil's favorites, a place that's been on his bucket list for ages. I was pleased to see on their web page that they focus on local food, prepared with imagination, and also have a well-chosen wine list, as well as an extensive list of their beers.

I'm thrilled with the tangerines and lemons just outside our door, as I've always wanted to taste citrus that fresh, and with our Airbnb hosts, who already feel like good friends.

I'm looking forward to some time to relax here, as well as seeing the sights, eating great food, walking in interesting places, and on Sunday, getting together with a relative I last saw about 20 years ago!
