A place by the water?

It has always been a dream of ours to live somewhere overlooking the water. It really doesn’t matter whether it’s a river, maybe a lake or somewhere by the sea.
But then reality steps in with the realisation that our ideal would undoubtedly make us idle. So idle that we would spend all our time savouring views like this that the sheer prospect of actually achieving something positive with our life would be in danger of just not happening.
I suppose that at our time of life we could be forgiven putting off the humdrum things until tomorrow, yet I have a sneaking suspicion that like tomorrow  which never comes, our best intentions would also disappear into the cloud — or maybe more appropriately, disappear with the tide.
One thing is for sure, waterfront living would never leave us bored. We already know that life in a place like this is full of activity, whether or not you sail.  Even the comings and goings from the pontoons is fascination enough.
We have to admit that we have had every opportunity to settle for a waterside place, but then we cannot deny that rural living in the countryside has its attractions and benefits as well.  But the nearest we see water is when spells of exceptionally heavy rain cause the roadside ditches to fill with water draining, not only from the roads, but fields and gardens as well.

Nor in a million years in the countryside can we share the atmospheric view like this.  Ah well! Dreams.
